WANA (Jun 11) – The naval arm of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that two oil tankers were struck after allegedly attempting to make an unauthorized passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

 

According to the statement, the action was taken as part of the enforcement of recently announced restrictions on maritime traffic in the strategic waterway. No further details were provided regarding the identity of the vessels, the extent of the damage, or the condition of their crews.

 

The announcement came only hours after Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters declared the complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

 

In its statement, the headquarters said: “Following continued acts of aggression by the criminal United States and in light of attacks launched by its military against several areas in the southern province of Hormozgan, the Strait of Hormuz is hereby closed to all vessels, including oil tankers and commercial ships. Any vessel attempting to transit the strait will be targeted.”

 

The headquarters also rejected U.S. claims that ships were continuing to pass through the strategic waterway, describing those reports as false.
