WANA (Jul 20) – Two strong earthquakes with magnitudes exceeding 5.0 on the Richter scale struck the town of Kuzaran in Iran’s western Kermanshah province within a five-minute span on Monday morning, causing widespread tremors across the region and leaving at least three people injured.

 

The first earthquake, registering a magnitude of 5.2, hit at 7:13 AM local time on Monday, July 20. According to seismic data, the tremor occurred at a relatively shallow depth of 8 kilometers, with coordinates recorded at 34.56 degrees latitude and 46.43 degrees longitude.

 

Just five minutes later, at 7:18 AM, a second, more powerful earthquake measuring 5.7 magnitude struck the same area. This second quake originated from a depth of 13 kilometers. The tremors were so intense that they were felt by residents in neighboring provinces.

 

Local Impact and Casualties

Kuzaran, a town with a population of approximately 6,000, is located northwest of Kermanshah city, situated between the cities of Javanrud, Islamabad-e Gharb, and Kermanshah. It lies roughly 52 kilometers away from the provincial capital.

 

Local officials have reported that three people were injured while attempting to flee their homes during the panic. There are currently no detailed reports regarding structural damage or further casualties. Emergency services remain on high alert and are assessing the situation.
