Two World Silver Medals and a New Junior World Record for Iran’s 20-Year-Old Weightlifter
WANA (Oct 11) – Alireza Nasiri, Iran’s promising young weightlifter, shone at the 2025 World Weightlifting Championships in Norway. Competing in the 110 kg category, he lifted a total of 415 kilograms, winning two silver medals in the clean and jerk as well as the total, while also breaking the Junior World Record.
Despite a modest start in the snatch with a lift of 184 kilograms, which placed him seventh, Nasiri delivered an outstanding performance in the clean and jerk. He successfully lifted 218, 224, and 231 kilograms, surpassing the previous Junior World Records in both the clean and jerk and the total by one kilogram each.
Nasiri’s remarkable performance earned him two world silver medals and saw him outperform Ruslan Nurudinov, the former Olympic and World Champion — an impressive feat for his second appearance at the senior world level.

Meanwhile, Iran’s other representative, Abolfazl Zare, who competed in Group B, lifted 176 kilograms in the snatch and 210 kilograms in the clean and jerk for a total of 386 kilograms, finishing 12th overall.
In the snatch, Uzbekistan’s Akbar Djurayev dominated the field, lifting 196 kilograms to set a new world record and secure all three gold medals.
Nasiri’s performance — combining resilience, technical excellence, and record-breaking power — once again renewed hopes for the bright future of Iranian weightlifting.
