U.S. Attack on Coastal Facilities Violates End-of-War Agreement
WANA (Jun 27) – Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned recent U.S. airstrikes targeting several locations along the country’s southern coastline, describing the attacks as a clear violation of the end-of-war agreement and fundamental principles of international law.
In a statement released on Saturday, the ministry said the U.S. strikes conducted on Friday night against Iran’s coastal monitoring facilities constituted a breach of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the United Nations Charter, as well as a direct violation of the first clause of the ceasefire and war termination memorandum signed on June 18, 2026.
The statement also referred to recent developments in the region, including attacks by Israel on Lebanon, which Iran claims were carried out in coordination with the United States. According to the ministry, these actions also violate the commitments outlined in the war termination agreement.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry reaffirmed the country’s inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, emphasizing that the Islamic Republic would defend its sovereignty, security, and national interests with full determination. It stated that defensive operations carried out by Iranian armed forces against targets linked to U.S. forces in the region were conducted within the framework of legitimate self-defense.
The ministry further said that responsibility for the consequences of the current situation rests with the United States and any parties that support or facilitate actions against Iran.
The statement also stressed the importance of Gulf countries along the southern shores maintaining good-neighborly relations and preventing their territories or facilities from being used for hostile actions against Iran.
In addition, Iran called on the United Nations Secretary-General, the Security Council, and other international bodies to take action regarding what it described as serious violations of international law by the United States and to fulfill their responsibilities in maintaining regional and international peace and security.
Following the developments, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy also announced that it had targeted several U.S. military positions in the region, stating that the action was carried out in response to the recent attacks.
