U.S. Confirms Iranian Missile Attack on Its Bases in Kuwait and Bahrain
WANA (Jun 06) – The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed that Iran launched several ballistic missiles toward American military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain, corroborating earlier claims by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that it had targeted U.S. positions in the two Gulf states.
In a statement released Friday night local time, CENTCOM said Iran fired seven ballistic missiles toward U.S. bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. The command also claimed that American forces intercepted multiple Iranian ballistic missiles and drones that had been launched toward the Strait of Hormuz and neighboring Gulf countries on June 5.
According to CENTCOM, the missile launches came hours after U.S. forces shot down four Iranian suicide drones that were allegedly heading toward the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. military claimed the drones posed an immediate threat to maritime traffic in the region.
The statement further asserted that American forces subsequently struck Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites and related facilities in the city of Gurk and on Qeshm Island in an effort to prevent further attacks on shipping routes.
CENTCOM also released footage of a strike on a coastal area in Iran and claimed that six of the seven missiles fired by Iran were intercepted, while the seventh failed to reach its intended target.
The U.S. military said there have been no reports of injuries to American personnel and rejected claims that the headquarters of the U.S. Fifth Fleet in Bahrain had sustained damage.
CENTCOM added that U.S. forces remain on high alert and will continue to respond to what it described as unjustified attacks by Iran in accordance with its right to self-defense.
Earlier, the IRGC’s Public Relations Office announced that, in response to what it described as U.S. aggression, Iran’s Aerospace Force had targeted the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and key remaining facilities associated with the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.
The IRGC stated that the operation was carried out after American drones allegedly struck telecommunications towers on Qeshm Island and in the city of Sirik. The statement warned that if the United States repeats such actions, Iran’s response would not remain limited and that Washington would bear responsibility for any resulting consequences.
