WANA (Jul 10) – The U.S. Treasury Department has imposed new sanctions on Iran following what was described as violations of the ceasefire and the memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington.

The U.S. Treasury Department announced on Friday that the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) had taken action against Ali Ansari, an Iranian financial facilitator who manages a vast global network of assets. The Treasury Department, repeating previous allegations, said the sanctions were imposed following the resumption of attacks on international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, repeating previous allegations, said that the Treasury Department would continue to use all available tools to isolate Iran from the global financial system.

Bessent also said that the United States would preserve those assets for the Iranian people.

Earlier, OFAC announced that it had revoked the exemption issued on June 21, which had allowed Iran to sell its crude oil and petroleum products until August 21.
