WANA (Aug 25) – The U.S. Department of State announced new sanctions against Iran early Tuesday, targeting military officials, procurement networks, cyber operators, and energy traders.

 

According to an official statement, the U.S. took extensive measures against several entities, individuals, and vessels accused of facilitating the Iranian regime’s destabilizing activities. These activities reportedly include attacks on U.S. forces and regional allies, illegal weapons procurement, cyber intrusions into U.S. infrastructure, and energy sales that fund global terrorism.

 

The Department of State reported that the sanctions target:

 

Iranian Military Officials & Entities: Those responsible for procuring weapons, directing attacks against U.S. forces and partners, and gathering intelligence to target U.S. troops.

 

Procurement Networks: Entities supporting Iran’s military and missile programs.

 

Cyber Operators: A regime-directed group accused of widespread breaches into U.S. critical infrastructure.

 

Shipping & Trade Networks: Shipowners and brokers transporting Iranian oil and petrochemical products through the UAE, China, Singapore, and Europe.

 

The state department noted that the cyber measures were executed in close coordination with the FBI, following indictments unsealed the previous week against eight Iranian nationals for attacks on U.S. energy firms, defense contractors, healthcare facilities, and government offices.

 

Additionally, the U.S. offered a reward of up to $10 million for information regarding five individuals involved in malicious state-sponsored cyber operations against critical U.S. infrastructure.

 

The statement concluded with Washington affirming its commitment to disrupting Iran’s military, procurement, cyber, and oil trade operations, while calling on the international community to help hold those involved accountable.
