WANA (Jun 11) – A series of explosions were reported across Iran’s southern Hormozgan Province early Thursday, following reports that the United States had begun military operations against targets inside Iran.

 

According to local accounts, the first incidents were reported around 12:45 a.m. local time, when residents of Qeshm Island and the coastal city of Sirik heard multiple explosions. The exact locations and causes of the blasts were not immediately clear. At the same time, air defense systems were reported to have become active in parts of Qeshm.

 

Around 1:00 a.m., several additional explosions were heard west of Bandar Abbas, Iran’s main port city on the Persian Gulf. Residents in the Kargan area of Minab County also reported hearing multiple blasts. The precise targets remained unknown.

 

Shortly afterward, a senior U.S. official told Israeli media that attacks on several locations inside Iran were underway.

 

At approximately 1:20 a.m., further explosions were reported in western Bandar Abbas. Local sources also described sounds consistent with military engagements at sea, suggesting possible clashes involving Iranian and U.S. forces in the Persian Gulf.

 

Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said an Israeli F-16 fighter jet briefly entered the airspace over the Persian Gulf before retreating after an air-defense missile was launched toward it. According to an IRGC public relations statement, the aircraft withdrew from the area following the engagement.

 

By 1:30 a.m., residents reported hearing three more explosions in eastern Bandar Abbas, indicating that the incidents were occurring across multiple areas of the city.

 

Separately, reports indicated that a location in Kargan, near Minab, was struck five times by hostile projectiles, while another site in Sirik was also targeted.

 

Local sources further claimed that Iranian armed forces had launched missiles toward enemy positions, although no official statement had been issued regarding the reported response.

 

Meanwhile, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had initiated military operations against Iran.

 

An Iranian intelligence source stated that all U.S. military movements in the region, both on the ground and in the air, were being closely monitored. The source reiterated previous warnings that any country directly involved in military action against Iran—or allowing its territory or airspace to be used for such operations—could be regarded as a legitimate target for Iranian retaliation.

 

As of publication, Iranian military and security authorities had not released detailed information regarding casualties or the full extent of the damage. However, the overnight events have turned Hormozgan Province into one of the focal points of the rapidly escalating confrontation between Iran and the United States.
