WANA (Jul 13) – Explosions were reported across several locations in Iran’s southern provinces of Hormozgan and Khuzestan early Monday, following a series of overnight strikes. Local officials confirmed projectile impacts in multiple areas, with casualties reported in Khuzestan.

 

According to initial reports, more than ten explosions were heard around 12:30 a.m. local time in Bandar Abbas and Sirik. Later, residents also reported hearing explosions in Jask, southern Qeshm Island, Hengam Island, and Bandar Khamir. Hormozgan provincial officials said that, as of 2:40 a.m., no direct impacts had been confirmed in Bandar Khamir, adding that some of the sounds may have originated from offshore.

 

At the same time, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that, under the direction of President Donald Trump, it had launched strikes against Iran, stating that the operation was intended to reduce Iran’s ability to control the Strait of Hormuz.

 

Hormozgan’s governor’s office said that, so far, no civilian casualties or damage to residential or commercial infrastructure had been reported in the province.

 

Local sources also claimed that a telecommunications tower in Sirik was among the targets and had been struck multiple times.

 

In neighboring Khuzestan Province, provincial security officials said projectiles hit areas near Ahvaz, Mahshahr, Behbahan, Dezful, Omidiyeh, Andimeshk, Abadan, and areas around Shadegan between 1:35 a.m. and 2:20 a.m.

 

According to Valiollah Hayati, Khuzestan’s deputy governor for security affairs, one security guard was killed and four others were injured after a projectile struck an agricultural water pumping station in Mahshahr.

 

The official also denied reports claiming that Ahvaz Airport or the Shalamcheh border crossing had been targeted.

 

Provincial authorities said damage assessments are ongoing and that additional details will be released as the investigation continues.
