WANA (Apr 07) – Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations has stated that the U.S. President’s recent admission to arming antagonistic groups against Tehran is clear evidence that the United States sought to transform peaceful protests into violence, domestic unrest, and bloodshed.

In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the President of the Security Council on Monday, Amir Saeid Iravani asserted that Washington’s interference in Iran’s internal affairs constitutes a “gross violation of the UN Charter.”

Allegations of Armed Interference

The letter highlights a specific telephone interview with Fox News on April 5, 2026, in which the U.S. President reportedly admitted that Washington armed Iranian Kurdish opposition groups during the January protests.

Iravani characterized this behavior as a continuation of a long-standing U.S. policy of “creating, financing, and arming terrorist groups in the Middle East,” arguing that such actions entail international responsibility under the jurisprudence of the International Court of Justice.

Legal Violations and State Responsibility

The Iranian envoy outlined several international breaches, including:

  • Violation of the UN Charter: Interference in the sovereign affairs of another state.
  • State-Sponsored Terrorism: Violation of the 1999 International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and UN Security Council Resolution 1373.
  • Dissemination of Falsehoods: Accusing the U.S. of spreading “false statistics regarding casualties” to fuel unrest.

“The United States bears full responsibility for all damages and suffering inflicted upon civilians, as well as civilian and governmental institutions, during the unrest of December 2025 and January 2026,” Iravani wrote.

Call for Security Council Action

The Islamic Republic of Iran officially requested that the Security Council decisively condemn these “dangerous statements” and ensure that state support for terrorism is not tolerated.

Ambassador Iravani concluded by emphasizing that the U.S. policy toward Iran—which he claimed was designed to destabilize the country—has ultimately met with failure. He requested that the letter be registered and circulated as an official document of the Security Council.
