WANA (Jul 18) – A U.S. military strike has severely damaged the Bounji desalination plant in the western district of Jask, completely cutting off the drinking water supply to 20 rural communities, according to regional utility officials.

 

The Managing Director of the Hormozgan Water and Wastewater Company announced the incident, describing it as a direct attack on critical civilian infrastructure in Hormozgan Province.

 

The disruption has left an estimated 10,000 residents facing an immediate water crisis.

Critical Infrastructure Destroyed

The strike targeted key operational components of the facility, which has a total production capacity of 3,150 cubic meters of potable water per day.

 

According to technical damage assessments:

 

  • The primary pumping station used for drawing raw seawater into the facility was completely destroyed.

 

  • The main electrical transformer dedicated to powering the desalination plant was entirely knocked out.

 

Local authorities confirmed that emergency water distribution measures are being evaluated, as the targeted communities remain without access to running drinking water.
