WANA (Jul 17) – British police said a 39-year-old man has been charged with allegedly working for Iran’s intelligence service and committing offenses under the UK’s national security laws, in a move that comes amid heightened tensions between London and Tehran.

 

Police said on Friday that Abri, 39, a resident of Liverpool, was charged on suspicion of cooperating with Iran’s intelligence service and committing offenses under the country’s national security legislation.

 

According to British police, the suspect has been transferred to a police facility in central England. Searches were also carried out at several locations in Birmingham and Liverpool as part of the investigation.

 

UK security authorities also alleged that Iran has sought to use individuals and proxy networks to carry out hostile activities on British soil. They further alleged that several antisemitic attacks in Britain since the outbreak of military conflict between the United States and Iran have been linked to Iran.

 

The suspect is scheduled to appear before a court in London on Friday.
