WANA (Jun 13) – The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced on Saturday that an oil tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile approximately 6 nautical miles east of Oman.

 

Issuing a maritime security alert, the UKMTO stated it received reports of an incident in the waters east of Oman, confirming that a tanker’s port bow was targeted and struck. According to the agency, the vessel’s crew members are safe, no environmental damage has been reported, and the ship is currently proceeding to its next port of call.

 

The alert noted that authorities are actively investigating the incident. Vessels transiting the area have been advised to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity to the maritime agency.

 

The attack comes amid heightened security concerns surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, previously highlighted by the London-based International Maritime Organization (IMO).

 

The Islamic Republic of Iran has maintained that the current maritime security situation in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Sea of Oman does not exist in a vacuum.

 

Tehran emphasizes that these incidents must be analyzed within the context of recent military aggression by the United States and Israel against Iran, the militarization of the region, and the presence of extra-regional forces.

 

Iranian officials further asserted that sustainable maritime security can only be achieved through cooperation among regional states, respect for national sovereignty, and the avoidance of military adventurism.
