WANA (May 09) – Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s permanent representative to the international organizations in Vienna, reacted to Donald Trump’s recent threatening remarks against Iran, stressing that Washington still fails to understand that “blackmail and intimidation” do not work against Iran.

In a post on X, Ulyanov wrote: “The United States still does not understand that blackmail and intimidation do not work with the Iranian people.”

The Russian diplomat’s remarks came in response to Trump’s recent statements, in which the U.S. president implicitly threatened Iran with a nuclear strike, saying: “If there is no ceasefire… you’re going to see a big flash coming out of Iran. They’d better sign the agreement soon, because if they don’t, they’re going to suffer greatly.”

The comments also drew a reaction from Iranian officials. Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, described the remarks in a post on X as a “shameful contradiction,” writing: “On the one hand, they claim to be seeking to prevent a nuclear crisis and achieve peace, while on the other hand, they see the solution in a big blinding flash (a nuclear attack).”

The exchange of statements between Russian and Iranian officials comes amid ongoing high tensions between Tehran and Washington over Iran’s nuclear program and the future of negotiations.
