UN Secretary-General Congratulates Iran on Anniversary of the Islamic Revolution
WANA (Feb 11) – The Secretary-General of the United Nations has sent an official message congratulating the President and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution, underscoring the importance of dialogue and international cooperation in addressing global challenges.
According to official sources, António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, in a letter addressed to Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, extended his warmest congratulations on the occasion of Iran’s National Day.
He described national days as valuable opportunities to reflect on a country’s historical journey, its role and contributions within the international community, and the aspirations that shape the future of nations.
In his message, Guterres noted that such occasions also serve as reminders of the importance of solidarity, dialogue, and shared responsibility among countries in the face of global developments. He emphasized that the international community now more than ever requires cooperation and mutual understanding.
Referring to the current complex global situation, the UN Secretary-General identified ending wars and preventing the emergence of new conflicts, effectively addressing the climate crisis, reducing inequalities, and responsibly governing powerful emerging technologies as some of the most urgent and serious tests facing the international community.
Guterres stressed that successfully confronting these challenges requires renewed engagement, a strong commitment to multilateralism, and strengthened international cooperation—efforts he said are essential to achieving lasting peace and security, advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, and upholding human rights worldwide.
