UN Security Council to Hold Emergency Session on Israeli Attack
WANA (Jun 13) – The United Nations Security Council will convene an emergency session today, Friday (local time), in response to the Israeli regime’s aggressive attack on Iranian territory.
Following Israel’s assault and Iran’s formal request, the Security Council is scheduled to meet this afternoon, according to diplomatic sources who confirmed the emergency session.
The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting today at 3:00 PM (New York time) at the request of Araghchi.
The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the UN submitted an urgent letter to the Security Council condemning the Israeli attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities and the targeted assassinations of military officials, calling for an emergency meeting to address what it described as a blatant act of aggression.
In an official letter sent early Friday morning (local time) to the President of the Security Council, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, strongly condemned the recent Israeli attacks—carried out with U.S. backing—on Iran’s peaceful nuclear sites and senior military figures. He called for an immediate and decisive response by the Security Council to these criminal and provocative actions.
The letter stated: “In a reckless, unlawful, and premeditated act, the Israeli regime launched a series of coordinated military attacks against nuclear facilities and civilian infrastructure in Iran. These actions represent a clear violation of the UN Charter and fundamental principles of international law and pose a serious threat to regional and international peace and security.”
Iran’s UN mission highlighted that one of the primary targets was the Natanz nuclear facility, which operates under full IAEA safeguards and monitoring.
Iran Requests Emergency UN Security Council Meeting
WANA (Jun 13) – In a letter to the UN Security Council, Iran’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations condemned Israeli attacks and called for an emergency session to address what it described as the regime’s blatant aggression. The mission stated that “at the appropriate time and place, Iran will deliver a firm, proportionate, and […]
The letter emphasized: “Such an attack not only directly endangers Iranian civilians but also risks a catastrophic nuclear incident in the region. An intentional assault on safeguarded facilities constitutes a blatant breach of the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material and Iran’s legal obligations under its Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement.”
The letter also referred to a series of targeted terrorist operations in Iran’s capital, Tehran, which led to the killing of senior military commanders and top nuclear scientists. These acts were described as state terrorism, with the letter noting: “The Prime Minister of the Israeli regime has publicly and arrogantly claimed responsibility for these crimes—an explicit admission of committing international crimes.”
Iran’s mission further stressed that the Israeli regime’s actions constitute a grave violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran, a UN member state, and amount to acts of aggression and war crimes under international law and international humanitarian law. The letter declared: “These actions represent a flagrant breach of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, which unequivocally prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state.”
Separately, Iraq has also submitted an official complaint to the Security Council, condemning the Israeli regime’s violation of its airspace.
