UN: The Door to Diplomacy with Iran Will Never Be Closed
WANA (Oct 08) – The United Nations spokesperson expressed optimism about the potential of diplomacy regarding the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA), emphasizing that “the door to diplomacy with Iran will never be closed.”
Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, said on Tuesday evening, “The United Nations remains optimistic about the potential for diplomacy concerning the JCPOA.”
According to a report by RIA Novosti, Dujarric stressed, “We believe that the door to diplomacy with Iran will never be closed.”
In late August, the European troika — the United Kingdom, France, and Germany — informed the UN Security Council that they had initiated the mechanism for reimposing international sanctions on Iran, which had been lifted under the 2015 nuclear agreement.
By late September, the Security Council voted in favor of reinstating those sanctions. Under this unilateral and hostile move by Western countries, the renewed sanctions include new restrictions on the transfer of nuclear-related materials and technologies, the sale of heavy conventional weapons, ballistic missile technology, and the freezing of Iran’s overseas assets.
