UNICEF: At Least 20 Schools and 10 Hospitals Damaged in Iran
WANA (Mar 06) – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), referring to U.S. and Israeli attacks on schools, stressed that children and educational facilities are protected under international humanitarian law.
Citing received reports, UNICEF said that around 180 children have been killed in Iran, with many more injured in recent incidents.
The organization stated that at least 20 schools and 10 hospitals in Iran have been damaged.
According to UNICEF, 168 girls were among the victims, killed in an attack on a school in southern Iran.
The agency also reported that 12 children lost their lives in schools across five different locations in Iran.
Expressing deep concern, UNICEF called on all parties involved to immediately respect their obligations under international law and to ensure the protection of civilians, particularly children.
UNICEF emphasized that children and schools are protected under international humanitarian law, and that schools must always remain safe spaces for learning and development.
