Unveiling of the Statue Depicting Valerian Kneeling Before the Iranians
WANA (Nov 07) – At 14:30 GMT today (Friday), a statue depicting the Roman Emperor Valerian kneeling before the Iranians will be unveiled in Tehran’s Enghelab (Revolution) Square. (The story of Valerian kneeling before the Iranians refers to the defeat of the Roman Emperor Valerian by Shapur I of the Sassanid Empire and his capture in 260 AD. This unprecedented event in Roman imperial history has long been regarded as a moment of great pride for Iranians.)
The ceremony will also feature other heroic sculptures, including depictions of the British defeat by the Iranian national hero Mr. Delvari, the Iranian resistance against the Tsarist Russians, Surena’s bravery in battle against the Romans, and symbols showing the capture of British soldiers in the Persian Gulf.
The purpose of this event is to showcase Iran’s historical strength and triumphs over Western powers.
On the sidelines of the program, a street concert featuring well-known singers will also be held — marking the first time such a concert is organized in Enghelab Square, one of Tehran’s main public squares.
