WANA (Jun 27) – Iranian authorities have announced extensive traffic, security, and logistical preparations for the funeral ceremony of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, the late leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in an event expected to become one of the country’s largest public gatherings in recent years.

 

According to police officials, estimates suggest that total attendance across ceremonies in Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad could range between 18 and 35 million people. Some local authorities have also projected that between 15 and 20 million people may attend events in Tehran, while Mashhad could host between 8 and 10 million participants.

 

Based on the announced schedule, the ceremonies will take place in several stages across different cities. Tehran will host the main events, followed by ceremonies in Qom, Iraq, and Mashhad.

 

Iranian officials have also stated that, in addition to domestic participants, delegations and visitors from Iraq, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, and several other countries in the region have expressed readiness to attend the ceremonies.

 

Given the scale of the event, police, emergency services, and public agencies have implemented broad measures to manage transportation and ensure security. Official estimates indicate that Tehran alone could receive nearly two million incoming vehicles.

 

Security officials have also stated that multiple operational scenarios, including potential threats and measures for managing large-scale gatherings, have been incorporated into planning efforts.
