US Claims Interception of Two Iranian Tankers
WANA (May 08) – The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has claimed that it successfully targeted and disabled two Iranian oil tankers as they were attempting to enter Iranian ports.
According to the report, the smokestacks of two unladen, Iranian-flagged tankers were targeted as they approached a port in the Sea of Oman.
This follows a similar claim by CENTCOM two days ago regarding a separate unladen tanker navigating international waters toward Iran, which the U.S. previously asserted was no longer moving toward its destination.
However, the maritime tracking firm TankerTrackers—which provides data on Iranian oil shipments—reported that satellite imagery contradicts these claims, showing that the previously targeted tanker successfully broke through the blockade. Despite this, CENTCOM maintains that all three vessels involved in these recent incidents are currently not moving toward Iran.
