US House Passes Bill to Tighten Sanctions on Russia and Iran
WANA (Sep 17) – The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday passed legislation aimed at tightening sanctions on Russia and Iran, sending the bill to the White House for President Donald Trump’s signature.
The bill, known as the “Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026,” passed the House by a vote of 262-159.
The legislation targets Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet,” which Washington says is used to circumvent sanctions, and authorizes tariffs of up to 100% on imports from the five largest buyers of Russian energy products.
The bill also extends the Iran Sanctions Act of 1996, along with other measures targeting Russia and Iran.
Following its passage in the House, the legislation has been sent to the White House for Trump to sign into law.
