US Was Commander of 12-Day War, Says Larijani
WANA (Jul 10) – Mohammad-Javad Larijani, senior international affairs analyst, has warned against any attempts to whitewash the United States’ role in the recent aggression against Iran, stressing the need for a realistic understanding of the country’s situation in the face of foreign threats.
US, the Designer and Commander of the 12-Day War Against Iran
Referring to claims suggesting a distinction between the US and Israel, Larijani stated: “We must prioritize realism over wishes and assumptions. The strategic policies of the United States are crystal clear today; Washington assumes full leadership of wars and regional seditions against the Islamic Republic of Iran. In the recent 12-day aggression, it was the US that openly acted as the designer, supporter, and participant in the attack on Iran, while the Zionist regime merely played the role of a legionnaire.”
He added that any effort to separate the US from Israel in this aggression reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of reality and constitutes a strategic mistake in policymaking.
America Seeks Absolute Dominance Over the Region, Using Israel as Its Guard Dog
Highlighting America’s broader regional strategy, Larijani said: “The ultimate goal of the US is complete dominance over West Asia, with the Zionist regime acting as its guard dog. The current US president, under the illusion of achieving this goal, has officially demanded Iran’s total surrender and is employing all tools of terror, sabotage, and pressure.”
He criticized certain domestic positions that only blame Israel while avoiding mention of America’s criminal role, stating that such an approach unintentionally serves the objectives of the American-Zionist axis.
JCPOA: A Professional Disgrace for Iranian Foreign Policy
When asked about the possibility of negotiations with the US under current circumstances, Larijani said: “It seems the current administration is pursuing a ‘JCPOA model’ in foreign policy, but this model is overly simplistic, unprofessional, and based on naive assumptions.”
He elaborated that these assumptions include: Iran has no way out except through sanctions removal; the key to lifting sanctions lies solely with the US and requires a win-win deal; such a deal necessitates concessions on Iran’s nuclear industry, defense capabilities, and even its stance of non-threat against the US and Israel; and finally, after granting these concessions, Iran would have no choice but to trust Washington.
“This foreign policy approach is a professional disgrace and entirely disconnected from reality,” he emphasized. “Its outcome will be far more damaging than the JCPOA. When the delusional US president prescribes the Syrian model for Iran, we must understand they will attempt to impose this failed project on us too – but they will take that illusion to their graves.”
Negotiation Possible Only With National Honor and Clear Conditions
Larijani stressed that Iran emerged as the real victor in the recent 12-day war while the US, Israel, and their allies were definitive losers. “This victory must not be squandered with an American understanding or Zionist analysis; it should be safeguarded intelligently, and diplomacy must be designed to match this achievement.”
He outlined necessary conditions moving forward, including:
- Suspending cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) until its role in recent betrayals is clarified;
- Halting operational oversight under the NPT, given that the current untrustworthy IAEA serves as its executive arm;
- Treating Iran’s nuclear file as a closed and domestic issue with no legitimacy for Western intervention;
- Legally pursuing the US and Western military aggression and terrorist actions against Iran in international forums;
- Closing all avenues for concessions to the US and the Zionist West.
He further insisted on establishing clear conditions for dealing with both the US and the IAEA, urging the legal prosecution of Washington’s aggression at the global level.
Criticism of President’s Recent Stance on Negotiations
Commenting on Iran’s president’s recent statements regarding negotiations with the US, Larijani said: “It appears the president was merely expressing a personal opinion, which is far from the macro policies of the Islamic Republic. He has tried to draw a distinction between the US and the Zionist regime to signal his desire for negotiations with Washington.”
Larijani added that these remarks have delighted US officials at their recent White House meeting, giving them the audacity to state new demands. “Especially regrettable were the president’s comments suggesting a relaxation of Islamic scholars’ fatwas regarding the nature of war with the US and Israel.”
He stressed that a correct interpretation of these fatwas could have strengthened the president’s diplomatic bargaining power, as they hold widespread influence in the Islamic world. “Instead, he ignored and wasted these capacities, merely requesting negotiations in a way that clearly served the White House’s agenda of oppression.”
