Velayati: Strait of Hormuz is the Tangible Guarantee for Agreement’s Survival
WANA (May 27) – Ali Akbar Velayati, the Senior Advisor on International Affairs to Iran’s Supreme Leader, has asserted that international treaties require physical guarantees rather than mere diplomatic paperwork, pointing to the Strait of Hormuz as Iran’s ultimate strategic leverage.
In a series of statements published on his official social media account, the veteran diplomat outlined Iran’s civilizational resilience and its firm stance on diplomatic frameworks.
On Civilizational Resilience and National Sovereignty:
“History bears witness that all invaders who arrived with ambitions of dominance—from Alexander to Genghis Khan and Trump—were ultimately absorbed within the rich digestive tract of Iranian civilization,” Velayati stated.
He emphasized that “being a nation” is an inherent, deeply rooted civilizational identity, adding that it is “not a commodity that can be bought or rented with petrodollars.”
On Diplomatic Guarantees and the Strait of Hormuz:
Turning to current geopolitical developments, the Supreme Leader’s advisor underscored Tehran’s red lines regarding international treaties, stating that signatures alone are no longer sufficient.
“Iran’s red line is clear; this time, papers and signatures are not a guarantee,” Velayati warned. “The tangible guarantee for the survival of the agreement is the Strait of Hormuz.”
He concluded his remarks by noting that physical realities supersede diplomatic texts, stating, “Geography does not lie, and it stands as the ultimate judge of any treaty on paper.”
