WANA (May 11) – Ali Akbar Velayati, senior international affairs adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, reacted to Donald Trump’s recent remarks by stressing that the United States had failed in its direct confrontation with Iran and should not assume it can achieve victory through diplomacy.

In a post on X on Monday, Velayati referred to Trump’s recent comments about Iran and wrote: “Trump says Iran will no longer laugh and speaks of a ceasefire with tremendous brilliance, yet he addresses Iran with ambiguity and nuclear threats as though he truly believes the Pentagon’s narratives about concealing the heavy casualties suffered by American forces.”

Addressing the U.S. president directly, he added: “Never assume that by exploiting the current calm in Iran, you will triumphantly arrive in Beijing. First, learn the basics of the new geopolitical order in West Asia.”

The adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader further emphasized: “We defeated you on the battlefield; therefore, never imagine that you will prevail in diplomacy.”

Velayati’s remarks came after Trump, in a post on his Truth Social account, criticized previous U.S. administrations, including those of Barack Obama and Joe Biden, claiming that Washington had strengthened Tehran by giving Iran “hundreds of billions of dollars.” He also said that he “would not allow Iranians to smile again.”
