WANA (Sep 01) –  The spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission announced the approval of several articles of a bill titled the “Strategic Action Plan for Security and Sustainable Development in the Strait of Hormuz,” under which the payment of war compensation to Iran would become one of the conditions for receiving transit authorization through the waterway.

 

Hassan Ghashghavi, spokesperson for the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said that during the commission’s session, further details of the Strait of Hormuz management plan were reviewed, and several articles of the bill were approved.

 

He stated that the commission approved Note 2 of Article 5, which requires the provision of bank guarantees and insurance coverage against potential risks related to maritime transit. The commission also approved Article 6, which outlines the framework and executive regulations for determining service and insurance fees related to passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

 

Referring to the approval of Article 7, Ghashghavi said that under the measure, all countries, organizations, and legal or natural persons that caused damages to Iran during the war would be required to reach an agreement with the Iranian government on the method of paying compensation.

 

According to the commission spokesperson, if these countries or companies refuse to pay compensation or fail to reach an agreement with Iran, they will not be granted authorization to transit through the Strait of Hormuz.

 

The measure is part of a broader bill aimed at establishing new mechanisms for managing maritime traffic, related services, and security requirements in one of the world’s most strategically important shipping routes.
