Washington Sends Message to Iranian Public Amid Talks
WANA (Feb 10) – The U.S. State Department, in a Persian-language message issued during ongoing talks with Tehran, emphasized increased pressure on Iran and claimed that Washington’s latest sanctions are intended to benefit the Iranian people.
In a post on its Persian-language account on the social media platform X, the State Department referred to new tariffs targeting countries that purchase Iranian goods, saying that “President Donald J. Trump is signing an executive order to confront the Islamic Republic regime and establish a process to impose tariffs on countries that continue to purchase goods or services from Iran.”
The U.S. State Department presented itself as a supporter of the Iranian people, despite criticism that such sanctions and tariffs directly affect the daily lives of ordinary Iranians and do not benefit them.
U.S. President Donald Trump signed the new executive order in the early hours of Saturday (February 6), just hours after talks between Washington and Tehran were held.
The order authorizes the United States to impose additional tariffs on imports from countries that directly or indirectly purchase goods or services from Iran.
At the same time, Washington imposed new sanctions on 15 entities, two individuals, and 14 vessels linked to what it described as Iran’s “shadow fleet” involved in oil shipments.
These measures come as U.S. officials continue to say they are seeking an agreement with Iran.
According to Iranian assessments, Washington appears to be combining military deployments in West Asia with economic pressure, while also attempting to incite public unrest inside Iran, in an effort to force Iranian officials to accept what has been described as a Trump-imposed agreement.
Iran has repeatedly said it welcomes diplomacy but has stressed that any negotiations must be conducted in a “fair and just” manner and free from threats and pressure.
