“We Are Fighting in a Controlled Manner”
WANA (Mar 06) – Brigadier General Mohammad Akrami-Nia, spokesperson for the Iranian Army, said in a televised interview that Iran’s armed forces have entered a conflict that was not of their choosing.
“We had warned that if the enemy made a miscalculation, it would suffer serious consequences,” he said. “Unfortunately, that miscalculation occurred, and for the second time the negotiating table was bombed.”
He added that Iran’s adversaries — along with European countries that claim to support dialogue and diplomacy — ultimately betrayed negotiations and pushed the situation into war.
“For us, this is a legitimate and sacred war because we are defending ourselves,” Akrami-Nia said. “Therefore, the motivation and determination of Iran’s armed forces are far greater than those of our enemies.”
The army spokesperson also noted that Iran had previously warned that if war broke out, U.S. bases across the region would be targeted.
“We said we would strike, and we did,” he said. “We warned that this war could become regional — and that is exactly what has happened. We said we would respond immediately, and we did.”
Akrami-Nia emphasised that Iran harbours no hostile intentions toward regional countries, despite attacks on U.S. bases located there.
“If bases in regional countries have been targeted today, the responsibility lies with the United States,” he said. “Iran has absolutely no hostile intent toward the countries of the region and maintains very brotherly relations with Muslim nations there. But when war breaks out, its flames can spread — and responsibility for this fire rests with the United States.”
He also cited strong public support within Iran.
“Inside the country, due to the enemy’s hostile actions, we are witnessing a surge of public mobilization,” he said. “People are demanding revenge from their sons in the armed forces. We have no choice but to respond — and we certainly will.”
