WANA (May 30) – In a nationally broadcast Friday sermon in Iran,  Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami, stated that Iran is not seeking nuclear weapons: “This nation will not back down from its legitimate right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy. We have enriched [uranium], we are enriching, and we will continue to do so.”

He highlighted the achievements of Iranian scientists in peaceful nuclear technology and said: “You saw what they tried to do to us in the field of nuclear energy. They said we shouldn’t even have a single centrifuge. But by the grace of God and the efforts of our scientists, we made progress in this field.”

Khatami also addressed recent American remarks about Iran’s right to enrich uranium, saying: “Trump and those like him aren’t worried about nuclear bombs. They know we don’t have one—not because we fear them, but because God has forbidden it. The Prophet said that weapons of mass destruction, which burn everything indiscriminately, are not allowed. This is a firmly established religious teaching.”

Emphasizing the role of nuclear energy in both medical and industrial fields as well as electricity production, he continued: “What truly worries them is our access to advanced technology. But thank God, our nation has enriched uranium as much as needed and will continue to do so. And our enemies can’t do a thing about it.”

He added: “They claimed we can’t even enrich to one percent. That’s nonsense! This nation will not give up its legitimate right to peaceful nuclear energy. We have enriched, we are enriching, and we will continue to enrich. And no, we do not have a nuclear bomb.”

Ayatollah Khatami concluded by saying: “Who said we need your permission to pursue nuclear energy? That’s an outrageous claim. Watch your words.”
