WANA (Feb 23) – The Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Army stressed that Tehran will not allow “the enemy to swallow Greater Iran.”

Major General Amir Hatami said, “In the Army, we will defend Iran’s independence and territorial integrity until our last breath.”

Describing the current situation as a “hybrid war,” Hatami stated that Iran is not facing merely a conventional military threat, but rather a combination of political, economic, psychological, and informational pressures.

He emphasized that today’s war is “more complex than in the past,” adding that families and civil society are also being targeted.

In another part of his remarks, the army chief questioned the claim of “invincibility” often associated with major powers, referring to their prolonged wars in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq. He said these countries “enter with claims and intimidation, but ultimately leave in disgrace.”

Hatami also said that some foreign actors believe Iran is in a “position of weakness,” but according to him, the “readiness and steadfastness” of Iran’s armed forces will alter that calculation.

By stressing the presence of “millions of soldiers ready to sacrifice their lives,” he sought to project an image of domestic unity and defensive preparedness.

Elsewhere in his speech, the army commander referred to the role of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, describing him as “the most perceptive figure in recognizing the enemy within the Islamic world.”

Hatami also spoke of what he called “strategic attrition,” a strategy he said aims to gradually exhaust Iranian society through sustained pressure.

He warned that any attempt to undermine Iran’s territorial integrity would be met with a “decisive response.”
