WANA (Jun 15) – A source close to Iran’s negotiating team provided details about developments surrounding the agreement with the United States over the past 24 hours.

 

According to the source, after the general framework of the memorandum of understanding was approved by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council on Saturday, discussions resumed on Sunday morning with the participation of the Qatari delegation to address several unresolved issues. These issues appeared unlikely to be settled until around midday today, when Israel launched an attack on the Dahieh district, effectively crossing red lines that Iran had previously established.

 

At that point, Iran was reportedly preparing to launch large-scale attacks against Israel from multiple fronts, and negotiations were moving toward collapse. However, following renewed intervention by Trump and the concessions reportedly offered in exchange for Iran refraining from attacking Israel, the negotiating team became convinced that the agreement would serve both Iran’s national interests and the interests of the Lebanese people.

 

The most significant last-minute changes included:

 

  • The immediate lifting of the naval blockade (instead of the previously agreed 30-day timeline).
  • An end to the war and military operations on all fronts and throughout all areas of Lebanon, along with a commitment to respect the country’s territorial integrity.

 

Consultations continued until late Sunday night. Although preparations for an attack on Israel were reportedly complete, the source said that U.S. acceptance of Iran’s demands ultimately removed the remaining obstacles to signing the memorandum of understanding, which is now expected to be signe d on Friday.
