WANA (Jul 21) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson has clarified that Ali Larijani traveled to Moscow as the special envoy of the President and was carrying a message and Iran’s overarching strategic viewpoint for President Vladimir Putin.

 

A day after the Kremlin confirmed a meeting between Ali Larijani — senior advisor to the Supreme Leader of Iran — and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei stated:

 

“Mr. Larijani visited Russia as the special envoy of the President, delivering a message and Iran’s broader perspective on regional developments, international issues, and bilateral relations.”

 

He added that Larijani had a very constructive meeting with Putin, during which they discussed a wide range of topics, particularly bilateral ties and regional issues in the wake of recent developments over the past few weeks.

 

Esmail Baghaei emphasized that such diplomatic visits are standard practice: “It is common for countries to send envoys based on unfolding developments and the importance of certain issues. Mr. Larijani has previously undertaken similar missions to Russia in the same capacity. The Foreign Ministry was fully informed about this trip.”

Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Kremlin, announced on Sunday that the senior Iranian Leader’s Advisor, Ali Larijani, met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

 

According to the Russian news agency, Peskov stated: “On Sunday, President Putin welcomed Ali Larijani, senior advisor to the Iranian Supreme Leader, at the Kremlin. During the meeting, the Iranian representative shared his assessment of the situation in the Middle East and developments related to Iran’s nuclear program.”

 

Peskov added that the Russian side reiterated its well-known positions aimed at stabilizing the region and pursuing a political resolution to issues surrounding Iran’s nuclear program.

 

He concluded by emphasizing that, during the meeting, the Russian side clearly expressed its stance on achieving a political settlement of the matters related to Iran’s nuclear dossier.
