WANA (Mar 07) – Pir-Hossein Kolivand, head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, said preliminary assessments indicate that a significant portion of the targets struck were civilian locations and infrastructure linked to everyday public life.

According to him, the sites affected include 5,535 residential units, 1,041 commercial properties, 14 medical centers, 65 schools, and 13 facilities affiliated with the Red Crescent, highlighting the scale of damage inflicted on urban infrastructure and public services.

Kolivand added that several rescue and relief vehicles were also damaged during the attacks, and several Red Crescent relief workers were injured while carrying out rescue missions.

He noted that under the Geneva Conventions, attacks on civilian facilities — including residential homes, medical centers, schools, as well as humanitarian personnel and equipment — are explicitly prohibited. All parties involved in conflicts are obligated to respect and protect these sites and personnel.

Kolivand called on international institutions, humanitarian organizations, and human rights advocates to take immediate and effective action to protect civilian lives, ensure the safety of relief workers, and guarantee respect for international humanitarian law.

He also stated that the Iranian Red Crescent Society has mobilized its full emergency response capacity and continues to support affected communities. Relief operations, emergency shelter assistance, and humanitarian support are ongoing in the impacted areas.
