WANA (Sep 19) – A  member of Iran’s 10th parliament presidium emphasized that one of Iran’s conditions in its new agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is the withdrawal of the European troika from triggering the snapback mechanism. However, if the Europeans move forward with such an initiative, the path would be open for Iran to withdraw from the agreement.

Gholamreza Kateb, in an interview with an Iranian news agency, referred to the new agreement between Iran and the IAEA and said: “According to the explanations provided by the foreign minister, one of the conditions of this new agreement is that the European troika must refrain from activating the snapback mechanism. Therefore, it can be said that this agreement is in favor of the Islamic Republic of Iran. It helps prevent the imposition of new sanctions against the country.”

If Europeans act against Iran, the agreement with the IAEA will be annulled

He further noted: “On the other hand, if the European troika once again takes steps toward activating the snapback mechanism, Iran has the right to cancel this new agreement. If European countries honor their commitments, the understanding with the IAEA will remain valid. But if they decide to take action against the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iran will also cancel the agreement with the Agency. Therefore, it can be said that this agreement with the IAEA will not cause any harm to us.”

Iran has once again proven to the world that it is committed to dialogue

Kateb  added: “Once again, global public opinion witnessed that the Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to dialogue. It was the United States and Israel that attacked Iran during the negotiations. The Islamic Republic has always acted based on logic and principles. Today, Arab and Islamic countries have come to recognize more clearly the corrupt nature of the Israeli regime. Iran has the necessary capabilities to defend itself.”

The agreement with the IAEA can influence nuclear talks

He went on to stress: “Iran has always respected the rights of nations, and this new agreement with the IAEA has reaffirmed that principle. Moreover, relations with the IAEA play the most significant role in nuclear negotiations. The agreement with the Agency can also influence the talks surrounding Iran’s nuclear issue.”
