World Atomic Assembly Meeting with Putin, Mohammad Eslami, and Rafael Grossi
WANA (Sep 26) – The World Atomic Assembly convened in Moscow with the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin and heads of foreign delegations, including Mohammad Eslami, Vice President of Iran and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI).
According to the Kremlin, the session opened on Thursday afternoon, September 25, 2025, as part of “World Atom Week” and on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Russia’s nuclear industry. Shortly before the meeting began, President Putin met with the heads of the visiting delegations for informal talks.
The gathering was also attended by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjayev, Myanmar junta leader Min Aung Hlaing, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, and Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev.

Following the session, foreign delegates toured the “Atom – The Future” nuclear museum at the VDNKh exhibition complex in Moscow. President Putin was also present and is scheduled to deliver a speech at the World Atomic Assembly later today.
During the tour, Rosatom’s director explained the design of a pressurized water reactor and outlined the company’s work in small-scale nuclear power generation and the development of closed fuel cycle systems. Likhachev said Rosatom is also advancing non-energy applications of nuclear technology, including medicine, space exploration, quantum computing (across four platforms: cold atoms, photons, ions, and semiconductors), and agriculture. He further noted that Rosatom is expanding its fleet of nuclear icebreakers and provides traffic management services along the Northern Sea Route. The company is currently involved in building facilities and implementing nuclear projects in 71 countries worldwide.
Events of Russia’s World Atom Week (WAW) began with the opening of “AtomExpo 2025,” which featured an exclusive pavilion showcasing the achievements of Iran’s nuclear industry, attended by AEOI chief Mohammad Eslami. Iran’s pavilion, inaugurated on Thursday at Moscow’s VDNKh cultural complex, attracted strong interest from visitors.

Alongside Iran and host country Russia, China, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and several international organizations also set up pavilions to display their capabilities in the field of peaceful nuclear energy. According to Russian officials, this year’s World Atom Week is the largest international gathering dedicated to the nuclear industry and related fields, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Russia’s nuclear program.
Rosatom, the state-owned nuclear corporation organizing the event, announced that ministers, executives of major companies, scientists, leading media representatives, and young professionals from more than 100 countries are taking part in the World Atom Week in Moscow.
On September 23, 2025, Rosatom also announced that Tehran and Moscow had signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation for the construction of small nuclear power plants in Iran.
