WANA (Jul 16) – The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that the wreckage of a U.S. MQ-9 drone, which it said had been intercepted and destroyed over the city of Andimeshk, has been recovered in western Iran.
According to an IRGC statement, the drone was detected, tracked, and successfully shot down early Thursday by a newly deployed air defense system operated by the IRGC Aerospace Force while flying over Andimeshk.
Following the interception, debris from the aircraft fell within the geographical boundaries of Dehloran County in Iran’s Ilam Province.
After a search operation, members of the Basij forces based in the Dasht Abbas district located the wreckage in the mountainous area near the village of Septon.
The IRGC said the drone’s remains were identified and recovered by local forces.
