WANA (Jun 10) – Yazd has officially been designated as the “World Capital of Traditional Jewelry,” a declaration made today by Iran’s Minister of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism.

This prestigious title was awarded after Yazd emerged victorious in a close competition against other global contenders, earning the highest scores from a rigorous international judging committee.

The announcement was made by Seyyed Reza Salehi Amiri upon his arrival in the historic city for the international event celebrating Yazd’s new status.

Salehi Amiri emphasized the historical significance of this day for Yazd and Iran, highlighting it as a national celebration attended by the head of the World Crafts Council, jury members, and all those instrumental in the city’s global registration for traditional jewelry.

He noted that Yazd, with its distinct identity, serves as a symbol of Iran, and this recognition reinforces the city’s profound connection to the nation’s and the world’s cultural heritage.

He further added that Yazd boasts over 2,000 registered historical sites and eleven UNESCO-listed world heritage sites, reflecting the rich tapestry of Iranian culture concentrated within the city.

Representing the government, Salehi Amiri extended congratulations to the people of Yazd for this new title, which marks the second major international recognition for the ancient city after its inscription as a World Heritage City.

The minister also indicated that tonight, during a public celebration, the various dimensions of Yazd’s global registration for traditional jewelry would be further elaborated to deepen understanding and promote the achievement.

The official unveiling of the “Traditional Jewelry of Yazd” global registration plaque also took place today at the Central Hall of the World Heritage City, with international and national figures in attendance. This plaque serves as a global endorsement of Yazd’s traditional handicraft and jewelry-making artistry.
