WANA (Mar 27) – Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responded to Canada’s announcement of several new sanctions against Iran. In a post on X, he wrote:

“Appeasing the bullies & aggressors by pressuring the victim will hardly keep you spared from (the consequences of) their lawlessness & bullying.

Appeasing bullies & facsists does not stop them؛ it only whets their appetite.”

Earlier, Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand had announced that Canada has imposed more sanctions against Iranian entities involved in weapons production.

A news release from Global Affairs Canada says the sanctions are being imposed against five individuals and four entities under the Special Economic Measures (Iran) Regulations.

Global Affairs says the additional sanctions target Iranian businesspeople and companies tied to procurement networks supplying advanced technology for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ weapons programs.

The Canadian government claims Iran’s transfer of arms, drones and other military technology to foreign governments such as Russia for use in its war against Ukraine “threatens the sovereignty of other states and violates international norms.”
