In a video address, Zelensky stated that the sanctions are aimed at countering the so-called “shadow fleet” involved in transporting Russian oil and petrochemicals, adding that the measures also apply to the captains of these vessels and will be coordinated with Ukraine’s international partners.
Earlier, Zelensky had already sanctioned 40 individuals and 382 entities from countries including Iran, Russia, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Mali, France, and Cyprus.
According to previous Ukrainian government sanctions, Russian political parties, the Central Election Commission of Russia, and Rosselkhozbank were among the entities placed under restrictions.
On April 15, Zelensky also enacted an NSDC decision to impose penalties on 692 individuals and entities from Russia and Belarus.
