WANA (Aug 31) – In the ongoing 2024 Paralympic Games, which began on Thursday morning at the Grand Palais in Paris, the Iranian delegation has secured three silver medals, two of which were won by Iranian female athletes.

Zahra Rahimi, the youngest member of the Iranian team at 15 years and 9 months, claimed the first silver medal in Para-Taekwondo.

After defeating her Georgian opponent in the semifinals, she advanced to the final in the -52 kg category but lost to her Mongolian rival, earning the silver medal. Notably, Rahimi received her medal from Jackie Chan, the world-renowned actor and martial artist.

In the F55 shot put competition, Zafar Zaker initially placed fourth with a throw of 11.88 meters.

However, after the Iranian team’s protest against the performances of two athletes from Serbia and Poland, who had initially secured the silver and bronze medals, their records were declared invalid.

As a result, Zakir moved up to second place and won the silver medal. In this competition, representatives from Bulgaria and Poland secured first and third place, respectively.

Parastoo Habibi, another Iranian athlete and the country’s first medalist in the F32 club throw event, initially won a bronze medal with a throw of 26.29 meters.

However, after a successful protest against the performance of the Polish athlete who had won the gold medal, her records were invalidated, and she was removed from the standings.

Consequently, Habibi moved up to second place and secured the silver medal, with the Tunisian representative winning the gold.
