60 Countries to Attend the World Bodybuilding Championship in Iran
WANA (Aug 20) – The president of Iran’s Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation announced today in a press conference that so far, 60 countries have confirmed their participation in the upcoming World Bodybuilding Championship.
The 2024 World Bodybuilding Championship is set to take place on Kish Island, located in southern Iran.
Reportedly, Amir Abdollahian, the former Foreign Minister who tragically passed away in an aviation accident, made significant efforts and conducted extensive negotiations to secure this hosting opportunity.
Following the announcement of Iran’s hosting, there was a strong reception to the event and the news of Iran’s hosting. However, after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, some countries withdrew from the event.
One of these countries was Japan, which had registered a large number of athletes but later withdrew. Lithuania, Finland, Germany, and South Korea are among the other countries that have so far announced their withdrawal.
As of today, 60 countries have officially confirmed their participation in this competition, which will commence in late September 2024.
Regarding the participation of the U.S. national team, Nasirzadeh, the president of Iran’s Bodybuilding Federation, stated: “The U.S. had submitted a request and the necessary arrangements were made, but this team has also withdrawn.”
To host this round of the championship, Iran must pay 250,000 euros to the International Federation, which is to be paid in four installments. Under these circumstances, 500 to 600 people are expected to participate in this round of the bodybuilding competition, each of whom must pay a fee to enter the competition.
