WANA (AUG 28) – Just as everyone thought, the relations between Iran and the U.S. are beginning to be revived after their agreement on exchanging prisoners and realizing Iran’s financial assets; the dangerous and provocative moves of the U.S. make all hopes disappear.

America’s recent seizure of Iran’s oil tank is a possible deal breaker for Tehran. Iran hoped the current agreement would encourage the United States to exercise greater prudence in matters of naval security. However, the actions taken by the U.S. have been different than what was anticipated.

Today, on August 28th, the Foreign Ministry spokesman, Naser Kanani, discussed the current relationship between Iran and the U.S. Kanani mentioned that Iran can proceed with their diplomatic path with the U.S. if the current agreement, which involves the safe exchange of prisoners and the release of blocked assets, goes as planned.

“Pursuing the release of prisoners and the release of Iran’s financial resources is an approach that, if done correctly, can be a constructive step to enable us to take the next steps in the path of America’s committed return to the agreements.” Said Kanani in his presser on Monday.

Yet Iran does have its own doubts in regard to trusting the U.S. “In the recent period, despite the agreement of exchanging the prisoners, we have witnessed other provocative actions by the American government like the seizure of oil tanks and implementing new sanctions on Iran. These actions do not match the messages sent by the U.S. implying that it is ready for direct talks and ready to return to the agreement fully, U.S. it is in contradiction to the signals of America.” said the spokesman

The spokesperson’s expression of Iran’s doubts illustrates a huge gap between the words and actions of the U.S. On one hand, the shared commitment to exchange prisoners provided a glimmer of hope for improved relations; on the other, the U.S.’s perceived disregard for Iran’s concerns, evidenced by the seizure of oil tanks and the imposition of fresh sanctions, casts this shadow of doubt.

The inconsistency between America’s reassurances of readiness for direct talks and its tangible maneuvers poses a dilemma for Iran. This discord between words and actions prevents Iran from taking the next diplomatic stride.

Iran’s call for the U.S. to shoulder the responsibility of rebuilding trust, especially in light of the unilateral exit from the JCPOA, indicates a country seeking tangible actions and a sincere alignment between promises and deeds.
