WANA (July 16) – Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister, Ali Bagheri, upon his arrival in New York, told Iranian reporters about the objectives of his trip to the U.S. He said, “Two important meetings will be held at the UN Security Council on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. On Tuesday, a meeting on multilateralism will be held, and on Wednesday, a meeting on Palestine.”

He stated that both topics are significant for the world, international relations, and the Islamic Republic of Iran from various perspectives. “Regarding Palestine, an obvious and blatant crime and genocide have been ongoing in Gaza for the past nine months.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has always played an active and serious role in political, legal, and public diplomacy arenas concerning the issue of Palestine alongside its other activities.”

The senior diplomat of the Islamic Republic of Iran continued, “In recent months, the martyred Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian participated in both the General Assembly and Security Council meetings on the issue of Palestine, actively working to elucidate the realities happening in Palestine and Gaza.”

The Acting Foreign Minister of Iran added, “At this stage, the Islamic Republic of Iran seeks to use the capacity of the UN Security Council to defend the rights, positions, and existence of the Palestinian people and to explain the crimes of the Zionist regime.”

Bagheri emphasized, “In this regard, we will use the mechanisms available in the international arena, including the Security Council, both in the framework of the Wednesday meeting and in multilateral mechanisms and bilateral meetings with the officials and representatives participating in this meeting, to create conditions that force the Zionist regime and its supporters, especially the U.S. government, to end the crimes and genocide in Gaza and allow the people of Gaza and the oppressed people of Palestine to return to normal conditions.”

Continuing his conversation with reporters, Bagheri highlighted the issue of multilateralism and its importance, saying, “For years, the international arena has been discussing that U.S. unilateralism not only fails to bring peace, stability, and security to the world but also creates deadlocks in important international issues due to America’s excessive and hegemonic approach, the most evident example being the crime committed by Zionists in Gaza, with the Americans currently acting as a serious obstacle to ending these crimes.”

He stressed that under these circumstances, multilateralism is presented as a real alternative and a viable option to offer solutions for international issues and challenges.

Bagheri noted, “The Islamic Republic of Iran, considering its membership in international mechanisms such as BRICS and Shanghai over the past few years, has demonstrated its capacity to play a serious role in this area.”

The senior diplomat of the Islamic Republic of Iran said, “We will use the capacity of the UN Security Council to highlight the role and position of multilateralism in resolving international issues and challenges.”

In the final part of his remarks to reporters, the Acting Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran said, “In addition to these two meetings, we will meet with a number of counterparts from other countries present at these meetings, and we will use other capacities available on the sidelines of these meetings and during our stay in New York, both in the political arena and public diplomacy, to explain the positions, approaches, and policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
