WANA (July 21) – The Iran-China container train service was inaugurated in a ceremony attended by the CEO of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, Seyed Miad Salehi, along with representatives from China, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan at the Tehran Rail Dry Port (Aprin Logistics Center).

The re-launch of the Iran-China and China-Iran container trains aims to enhance trade between the two nations and improve the speed of goods transportation.

Ten days ago, the first train from China arrived in Iran. Today, the first train from Iran to China departed, with the Iranian Railways CEO and the ambassadors of China, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan in attendance.

The arrival of the transit train from China is expected to expand the market for Chinese goods in Iran and bolster Iran’s efforts to strengthen its position as a transit hub for Chinese goods to West Asia and Europe.

After crossing Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, the train enters Iran through the Incheh Borun border terminal within ten days.

Relations between Iran and China have significantly improved since last year, following initiatives by the late President and aligning with Iran’s “Look East” policy and the 25-year cooperation agreement. This container train service is a crucial step in expanding bilateral relations.

Experts suggest Iran should rely on more than just transit for cargo transport between Iran and China. Instead, it should leverage its transit advantages by integrating rail transport with road and sea transport to elevate Iran’s logistical standing.
