WANA (July 22) – The spokesperson for the 2024 Caspian Sea Joint Maritime Rescue and Security Drill announced that the exercise is being conducted today with the participation of Iran and Russia in the Caspian Sea.

 

Abbas Hassani announced that the 2024 Caspian Joint Maritime Rescue and Security Drill, initiated by the Navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, is underway for the first time. The participating units, including the Russian Federation’s rescue ship, arrived at the exercise area, yesterday.

 

He mentioned that a coordination meeting and exercise review occurred yesterday. Today, the operational and tactical segments of the drill will be conducted. These segments include firefighting operations, helicopter rescues of injured individuals from a damaged ship, practice in aerial photography, military formations for a parade, and shooting drills.

 

The spokesperson mentioned that naval and aerial units from the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Navy, including the missile-launching vessels “Peykan,” “Derafsh,” and “Separ,” two AB-212 helicopters, and a floating unit from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy named “Shahid Basir,” are participating.

 

Russia’s SB45 vessel, which entered Iranian territorial waters yesterday, is also participating.

 

Representatives from the coastal countries of the Caspian Sea are present as observers to oversee various stages of the drill.
