WANA (July 28) – At the 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, currently being held in New Delhi, the historic site of Hagmataneh and the historical center of Hamedan have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

 

The historic site of Hagmataneh and the historical center of Hamedan were reviewed as the sole nomination from Iran. Ultimately, Hagmataneh, the largest historical site in Iran, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List, marking Iran’s 28th entry on the list.

 

The UNESCO World Heritage session is taking place in New Delhi from July 21 to 31. During the session, 19 cultural sites, 4 natural sites, and 2 mixed sites (both cultural and natural) are being considered for inclusion in the World Heritage List. Additionally, two sites are under review for significant modifications.

 

In addition to Hagmataneh, other sites under consideration at this session include the Royal Court of Burkina Faso, the Central Axis of Beijing in China, the historic town and archaeological site of Gedi in Kenya, the caves of Niah National Park in Malaysia, the cultural landscape of the Al-Faw archaeological area in Saudi Arabia, the Nelson Mandela heritage sites in South Africa, and the Phu Phra Bat Historical Park in Thailand.
