Highlighting Iran-Cuba’s Vast Cooperation Potential
WANA (July 29) – Ali Baqeri, Acting Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, met with Elio Rodriguez Perdomo, Cuba’s Deputy Foreign Minister and Head of Foreign Relations. The discussions centered on the latest developments in bilateral relations and key issues in international cooperation.
During the meeting, Baqeri welcomed the presence of the high-ranking Cuban delegation at the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s new president. He emphasized the extensive potential for both bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Iran and Cuba, particularly in enhancing economic relations alongside their strong political ties.
Baqeri described Iran and Cuba as nations with independent policies that should collaborate to counter global threats. He advocated for a more proactive approach, seeking new mechanisms and procedures to strengthen their relationship.
Furthermore, Baqeri stressed the importance of not only expanding economic relations but also enhancing cooperation to create new capacities for addressing the challenges posed by unilateralism and managing impending international challenges.
Ali Baqeri, Acting Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, emphasized the ongoing atrocities committed by the Israeli regime against the Palestinian people in Gaza, describing it as the world’s most pressing humanitarian issue.
He warned that the continuation and escalation of these crimes pose a threat to regional and global peace and security, constituting clear war crimes and crimes against humanity. Baqeri called for more serious and concerted efforts to prevent these atrocities.
Baqeri also acknowledged Cuba’s positive stance on the Palestinian issue and stressed the importance of continued consultations to halt the Israeli regime’s crimes and genocide. He highlighted the importance of holding a joint commission meeting between the two countries in the second half of this year.
During the meeting, Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Elio Rodriguez Perdomo expressed condolences over the loss of Ayatollah Raisi and Amir Abdollahian the Foreign Minister.
He announced that Cuba’s Prime Minister would attend the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s new president, underscoring Havana’s interest in strengthening relations with Tehran. Rodriguez Perdomo reaffirmed Cuba’s readiness to collaborate with Iran’s new government and officials to enhance bilateral and multilateral relations comprehensively.
Elio Rodriguez Perdomo reiterated his country’s support for the rights of the Palestinian people, stating that combating Israel’s genocide against Palestinians is a top priority in Cuba’s foreign policy. He emphasized the importance of ongoing political and international consultations between Cuba and Iran on this issue.
Rodriguez Perdomo also announced that Cuba has become the third country to join the effort to bring Israel’s crimes before the International Court of Justice.
