WANA (August 04) – Following the visa waiver agreements with 28 countries, Iran has embarked on a series of promotional roadshows to attract tourists.

These roadshows, which started in three Southeast Asian countries (Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam), are set to continue in India (Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad) in September 2024 from the 5th of September to the 10th. Iran plans to extend these promotional events to Arab countries, the Kurdistan Region, and Russia.

Historically, Iran’s tourism promotion budget has been limited, focusing mainly on well-known exhibitions in Europe and Asia. However, some private companies have successfully advertised Iran by inviting foreign journalists and influencers. The government is now enhancing its efforts by organizing international promotional tours and participating in global exhibitions.

Moslem Shojaei, Iran’s Director General of Foreign Tourism Marketing and Development, emphasizes the importance of focusing on promoting and showcasing the country’s current realities. He highlighted ongoing plans for participating in tourism exhibitions in Mumbai and Italy, alongside the roadshows in India.

Shojaei stated that these roadshows are particularly effective as a targeted promotional tool, especially from the perspective of the private sector. The Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts supports and finances part of these initiatives as the policy maker.

Iran has previously held successful roadshows in Southeast Asia and China. Statistics show that the number of Chinese tourists visiting Iran in 2023 increased by about 35% compared to 2019.

These roadshows will also be replicated in other markets such as Russia, Arab countries, and the Kurdistan Region. The goal of these roadshows and exhibitions is to present everyday life and the realities of Iran to the world, building trust among foreign tourists.
