WANA (August 05) – Following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas’s political office in Tehran, by the Israeli regime, and a senior Hezbollah commander in an Israeli attack on a residential building in southern Beirut last week, concerns about escalating conflicts in West Asia and the possibility of a regional war have increased.

Ro Khanna, a Democratic member of the U.S. Congress from California, cautioned against U.S. involvement in armed conflict with Iran and emphasized the importance of clarifying candidates’ stance on this issue, referencing the Iraq war as a mistake.

Also, Mark Pocan, another Democratic representative in the U.S. Congress, stated on Sunday, “I agree with Ro Khanna. We should not go to war with Iran! Let’s all agree on this matter.”

According to a report by Common Dreams, Hassan Al-Tayeb urged Ro Khanna to introduce a war powers resolution to increase pressure for non-intervention by the U.S. military in a potential war with Iran.

Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas, who was in Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of President Masoud Pezeshkian, was martyred in his residence early Wednesday morning.

Trita Parsi, Executive Vice President of the Quincy Institute, stated after Haniyeh’s assassination that Netanyahu had systematically undermined ceasefire negotiations in Gaza through Haniyeh’s assassination, as ending the war would likely end his political career.

He also noted, “We are once again treading a familiar path, trying to prevent a widespread war by pressuring Iran not to retaliate. If Biden were pushing for a ceasefire in Gaza, we wouldn’t always be on the brink of war.”

Since the onset of deadly attacks by the Israeli regime against the Gaza Strip, Israeli forces, with diplomatic and military support from Joe Biden, the U.S. President, and Congress, have killed over 39,000 civilians in the region, most of whom are women and children. Additionally, more than 91,000 people have been injured in these attacks.
