WANA (August 07) – Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa, the President of the National Olympic Committee of Iran, held a meeting with Thomas Bach, the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

 

At the beginning of this official session, held at the official hotel of the International Olympic Committee in Paris, Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa presented a report on the National Olympic Committee of Iran’s performance over the past year.

 

This report addressed international challenges, collaboration in holding elections for the national federations of gymnastics, triathlon, and cycling in cooperation with the IOC, and the activities undertaken in women’s sports.

 

Continuing the meeting, the President of the National Olympic Committee of Iran outlined his proposal to achieve gender equality, particularly increasing the presence of women in competitive sports, as part of the country’s sports policies aimed at the growth and development of women’s sports at both elite and grassroots levels. This proposal was well received by Thomas Bach.

 

Thomas Bach expressed his satisfaction with the increased participation of Iranian women athletes compared to previous periods and their significant presence in the opening ceremony of the 2024 Games.

 

He noted that the act of having both a male and female athlete carry the flag was highly appreciated by the International Olympic Committee and the global audience.

 

In conclusion, while referring to regional tensions, he emphasized the ideals, goals, and the role of sports in establishing peace.

 

At the end of this friendly meeting, the President of the International Olympic Committee awarded the Olympic Peace Medal to Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa, the President of the National Olympic Committee of Iran.
